An orange a day

An orange a day

news_4

Do you know that an orange provides 12% of your daily intake of fibre and almost all of you vitamin C requirement, if you opt for good organic produce (seeds and soil)? It has no fat, no cholesterol and no sodium. I prefer eating an orange to drinking its juice so that I don’t lose out on this intake of fibre. Fruits are certainly beneficial, but high levels of fructose within fruit and too much can absolutely devastate your biochemistry and physiology. However, an average orange is considered neither low nor high but a medium-low fructose level of under 9 grams.

What is clean eating?

What is clean eating?

These days, ‘Clean Eating’ has become a buzz phrase used and abused by many. For me, Clean Eating is effectively about going back to nature, about eating only real, fresh organic food. Clean Eating originates from a time when our food industry didn’t put such huge volumes of processed food so conveniently onto our supermarket shelves – a time when our foods were free of chemicals such as fertilisers, preservatives and additives and when genetic modification wasn’t in use to increase the profitability of product lines.

Saffron *love*

news_5

I love, love, LOVE my saffron! I use it a lot in my cooking. Saffron is a popular spice, albeit an expensive one too! It is rich in many vital vitamins, including vitamin A, folic acid, riboflavin, niacin and vitamin C. It is also a good source of minerals such as copper, potassium, calcium, manganese, iron, selenium, zinc and magnesium. Saffron can help in many traditional medicines as an antiseptic, antidepressant, anti-oxidant, digestive and more.

Three steps to taking control

Three steps to taking control

heba_three_steps

As much as I enjoy getting to know my clients, welcoming them at my centre and sharing in the enjoyment of what they are achieving, the best thing of all can be to not see them again! Let me explain!

I often take immense satisfaction from those clients who don’t return for consultation after repeat consultation. You see, the essence of how I practice and what I teach can be passed on to you in just three consultations. With each of the people who come to me for help, my goal is to equip them with the knowledge and to focus their strength so that they can look after themselves. After seeing you three times I know that I can empower you to make a profound change in the way that you look after yourself. Those who apply the knowledge they take from my consultations and go on applying it after our time together have all the essential tools and information that they need to continue to practice good health. And I can’t tell you how much pride and pleasure I derive from hearing their continued success stories months and years later.

Good health can, of course, be far more complex at times. I see people who come to me seeking help with far more difficult and long-term problems. For some people, it will take more time and more work together than can be accomplished in just three sessions. For a few people, problems can be deeply entrenched and the battle to reverse bad habits or manage myriad mental or physical problems can require considerable time and energy. It can require the help and support of others, too. In these sorts of cases, my prolonged help and support and repeated get-togethers can be crucial.

But I see so many people who are amazed to discover that they can successfully manage their own health by themselves. Often, they just need someone to show them, motivate them and inspire them along the way or get them started on their health journey. Good nutrition, in essence, is simple. Understanding what you get depends on what you put in is a logical construct. I love helping people to reconnect with this simple truth and help them to manage looking after their health.

Empowering others is a wonderful thing. It encourages positivity and confidence. It allows people to take control of their own lives.

In my consultations, I like to establish goals and objectives with each of my clients: find out what they would like to achieve and then plan how we can do that. Sometimes, we do it via stepping-stone goals. Sometimes, the effort can be a lot harder than others. But I always clearly communicate their current health picture and the things that will be required. A first consultation allows me to listen to a person’s story, to find out what is at the cause of their health and nutrition concerns. A follow-up consultation is the beginning of addressing those concerns with an achievable action plan and starting to tackle problems and take back control. A third consultation can be a final consultation: it can be the moment we go over what objectives we have, how we have decided to achieve them and how you will now continue and take forward your learning.

While I will always be available to all of my clients whenever they need me, whenever they are struggling with what we have planned together, whenever they ‘fall off the wagon’, l hope for every new client that three consultations will be all it takes. And for many, it really is.

Please drop me a line today to discuss how my help can empower you to change your life. It really can be as easy as 1-2-3.

Look after yourself

Look after yourself

LOOK_AFTER_YOURSELF

When you are committed to helping others – and to getting the enormous satisfaction that brings – it can be easy to forget to look after yourself as comprehensively as you might like. It’s a trap we’ve all fallen into and it can take an alarmingly long amount of time to become aware of. I’m writing this post to share with you that I feel I’ve reached such a conclusion recently. It’s taken me a good few weeks and an accumulated number of wake-up calls to realise it, but a couple of days ago I found a moment when I was able to step back and see that things weren’t as I would like them. There have been many things pulling on my time and many concerns which have kept me from working at 100%. Putting all of my strength and vitality into helping my clients has become more challenging of late. There has been no time left for me to rest properly and to recharge.

So, earlier this week I walked out into the countryside, into the late afternoon sunshine, and I took an hour out to figure how I could get through this challenging time. And I listened to myself in the same way that I would sit down and listen to one of my clients and I reasoned that I needed to break away from my work for a while. I plan to use my time to be with those that I love the most – to help them at a time when they need me and, once I have achieved that, to take a little time out for myself. I’ve been caring for my father for a while now, but I have only been able to give him half of my attention, and I know that he needs more than that. And I have deprived others close to me of time they need with me and that I need with them. Once I’d decided that this was what I needed to do, everything suddenly seemed very much clearer and the load I’ve been carrying felt much, much lighter.

With so many of my regular clients away with summer holidays right now, it seems like the best opportunity to take time out. The downside is that I won’t be able to make myself available to those clients who are around and would like to get hold of me. For that I am really sorry, but I know this is the thing I need to do right now. I will be able to return fully re-energised and push on with my work – both with those whose journey has begun with me already and with those who were hoping to be in touch with me to start theirs.

So, I hope you can all bear with me during this short time away. I’ll be putting the time to good use and am already feeling incredibly positive about some of the fresh challenges I will be coming back to.

I’ll be returning to work on Monday September 19th. Rest assured I’ll be back fully ready to go again in three weeks. Take care of yourselves while I’m away.

I may be a nutritionist, but I am just like you

I may be a nutritionist, but I am just like you

When you tell people you’re a nutritionist, they make certain assumptions. Face to face with someone for the first time, I’ve sometimes spotted that person trying to check for the nutritionist’s ‘core credentials’. You know the ones… the white teeth, the perfect skin, the radiant glow. This might be followed by a quick glance up and down to confirm that I also boast that body toned by pilates. There are others who automatically assume I spend my days nibbling on nuts and seeds, refusing caffeine and confectionery of every kind and compiling meals of carefully weighed raw veg, pulled fresh from the ground that morning.

I hate to break it to you, but that’s not really me. Worse still, I’m a fairly normal person with a normal desire for eating and with fairly regular cravings for bad stuff (in all its many various shapes and forms).
